Ropes Crossing Village: Town Centre Revitalisation
Village Shopping Centres wants to improve the retail offering for the local community and strengthen the connection between people and the places they share.
We want to enhance the current public domaIn, adhering to design excellence standards, which will revitalise the town centre’s lifestyle and liveability with improved walkways, bustling new retail spaces, new public bathrooms, parent friendly change rooms, a family restaurant and new indoor and outdoor spaces to live, work and play.
A Town Centre Revitalised
Since we acquired Ropes Crossing Village in 2014, there has been a significant increase in the local population and need for housing.
Talking with the community we found that most people wanted a new space for their town centre.
To help create this, we are about to embark on an exciting new design and planning process to revitalise the town centre, improving the lifestyle and liveability of Ropes Crossing.
The recent works completed have already created new retail opportunities, along with a much needed childcare centre and fitness facilities.
Our next goal focuses on expanding Coles to a “full line” supermarket to cater for all your needs, create better public and retail spaces, add more housing choice and improve parking for our customers.
Based on feedback we received with respect to parking and traffic, the new proposal will:
Provide undercover retail parking, delivering shade and protection from wind and rain
Increase available customer parking by 25-30%.
The proposed new parking design will improve accessibility during peak periods, provide all weather access and cater for the future long-term capacity requirements of the Ropes Crossing community.
We have also undertaken an assessment of the existing local streets and road network to confirm our new development can be accommodated within the existing capacity.
For the Community
Village Shopping Centres wants to build a family-oriented space for the community to naturally congregate, live, stay and play.
This proposal will focus on environmentally sustainable and green designs to enhance the current and newly built environments.
We are also excited to begin collaborations with Blacktown City Council to propose a new playground area and shared pedestrian zone to Central Place in the future
The existing shopping centre car park provides the last opportunity to create further diversity of quality housing options to suit the current and future needs of the community and, in particular, first home buyers and those wishing to downsize but wish to remain near their families in the local community.
On this site, we will be able to create around 130 new apartments, in three new buildings.
These buildings will be shielded by the existing perimeter buildings, built over recent years, minimising the visual changes to the existing town centre.
The new town centre residents will have their own dedicated and separate parking spaces.
New green space will also be created on the podium and rooftops, improving the local environment and current outlook.
The Planning Process
To facilitate this proposal, a concept masterplan is being prepared and a Development Application (DA) will be lodged with Blacktown City Council seeking approval.
The Stage One commercial addition will take less than a year to complete and further approvals will then be required from Council to enable the construction of the apartment buildings, retail expansion and communal open spaces of Stage Two.
This is the first of many communications with the Ropes Crossing community, with further engagement and communications being undertaken as the project progresses.
